Frequently Asked Questions

We take the quality of our classes seriously at Queen’s Park Music Kids and hope to provide the best musical learning experience for you. Please get in touch if you have any feedback, queries or haven’t found the answer to what you have been looking for.

I am unsure whether my child will enjoy the class. Do I have to pay for a block booking?

If you are new to Queen’s Park Music Kids you can pay for a single class and if you and your little one enjoy it you can sign up and pay for the rest of the block! Alternatively we have drop-in sessions if you want a pay as you go approach.

What should we wear to the classes?

Whatever you’re comfortable in for sitting and walking about the hall. All we ask is that you remove outdoor shoes if you’d like to step on our wee rug. Feel free to bring some slippers if you prefer to wear those!

I’ve missed the first class but I'd like to join the term! Can I still join?

Yes you can! We understand that life gets in the way and sometimes we miss deadlines so you are always welcome to join us anytime and pay for the rest of that term.

We’re unsure if the age group is right for my child. Can we try a different class?

Of course! We understand that everyone is different and we do our best to accommodate you and your child. We have plenty of experience with adapting sessions to suit and include everyone - get in touch with us and we can discuss how we can best support your child’s experience.

Does it matter that my child is not from a musical background and I’m not musical myself?

Please don’t worry about this, we are super pleased that they are getting to experience music early on and any contribution (even if you struggle to pitch notes) is a great way to start both you and your child’s musical journey!

My child has a lot of big feelings and can be disruptive, will they be okay with joining in with the class?

Classes are structured but fairly laid back. If your child becomes unsettled or upset during class please do just take a moment to soothe them, either to the side or outside of the hall so that the flow of the lesson is not interrupted.

My child isn't joining in with the class, should I be concerned?

We encourage more independent participation from ages 3 and up. Early Years learning is all about experience for your child so if all they do in class is sit and look around, watch and listen that is absolutely fine as they are absorbing lots of information. However, please be prepared to join in the class with your child!

Do I need to buy the Colourstrings books?

It is not necessary to own or bring the Colourstrings books to these classes. However you may wish to purchase these so that you can sing along with your child at home!

If I do not wish to continue the rest of the block can I get a refund?

Unfortunately we cannot offer a refund as the block payment helps us secure the fee for venue hire and paying our staff. We will only offer refunds in the event of class cancellations.

How can I pay for classes?

The simplest way is through bank transfer! If you get in touch with us we will send you the bank details or you can purchase class blocks via our bookings page. Paying in advance means we can confirm your child’s place in the classes.

What are the outcomes of classes and do we receive reports on our child’s progress?

General outcomes are displayed on Our Classes page however the pace of the class may be different. We are aware that children’s learning has changed post-lockdown - so we accommodate our repertoire and teaching to ensure that they are building on secure foundational music skills rather than learning specific concepts for the sake of learning them. We have short breaks after each class if you would like to check up on your child’s progress or you can drop us an email.
